Thank you for your interest in the Moore Fish Lab!
Prospective Graduate Students: Graduate positions in our lab will be available periodically and advertised below and on various job boards. Ideal candidates will possess an interest in aquatic ecology, conservation, and management, will be independent problem solvers, and will be motivated to continue to develop quantitative, and verbal and written communication skills. Our lab is committed to promoting increased diversity in our field and I strongly encourage students from underrepresented backgrounds to apply or reach out. Graduate students will not be admitted until funding is secured to support their research and educational experience in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University. Information on our department their admission requirements can be found here. I am always happy to discuss strategies for obtaining graduate school or professional positions with undergraduates or recent graduates. I encourage students planning on attending graduate school to identify labs that fit well with their academic interests and send a professional email to the PI or professor introducing yourself and identifying your shared academic interests. Building a professional network is essential for professional advancement and your email may plant a seed with the researcher they will remember if opportunities to fund a graduate student presents itself in the future.
Academic Collaborators: The Cooperative Research Unit program serves a variety of state and federal agency as well as NGO partners through providing applied scientific information to make guide decision making, an educated workforce of fish and wildlife managers and researchers, and technical assistance in various forms. We encourage those with questions, ideas for research collaboration, or other interests in working with our lab to contact us.
